Uwa Rice Museum

宇和米博物館

Learn about the cultivation of rice in Uwa, Ehime’s rice-producing district
An old wooden primary school in Uwa was moved and reconstructed for this museum now housing exhibitions about the local rice industry. The museum contains samples of over 80 varieties of rice, along with the tools and machinery used in the traditional production of rice. There is a serene view of the local rice fields outside surrounded by rows of traditional farm houses and the museum is also home to the unique “Z-1 grand prix”, a cloth-wiping race down the building’s 109-meter corridor – a popular event that attracts entrants from within and outside the local region!
